For referral partners
Refer a veteran to VETTED
Send us a referral the way that suits your day, and we will keep you informed from receipt to the first visit.
Three ways to refer
What we accept
We accept VA community care referrals for veterans in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties, Michigan. Not sure which service fits? Send the referral with "Not sure" checked, and we will talk it through with you.
| Service | What it covers | What we need from you |
|---|---|---|
| Homemaker / Home Health Aide | Non-medical personal care and household help on the weekly hours VA authorizes: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers, meals, medication reminders, light housekeeping, laundry, errands and company. | The VA referral/authorization and a contact for the veteran or family. Preferred days or times and any home safety notes help. |
| Respite (in-home) | A VETTED caregiver steps in at home so the family caregiver can take a break, within the time VA authorizes. | The VA referral/authorization and a contact for the family caregiver, plus the dates or times they need covered. |
| VDC backup coverage | Backup or short-term coverage when a Veteran-Directed Care worker is unavailable, where the program allows. | A contact for the veteran or family, a contact at the veteran's VDC program (locally, often AgeWays), and the dates coverage is needed. |
Our care is non-medical. Caregivers give medication reminders only. They do not administer medication, give injections, do wound care or perform clinical assessments. If a veteran's needs move past what non-medical care can safely cover, we tell you promptly.
Quick fit check
A referral is usually a good fit for us when:
- The veteran is enrolled in VA health care.
- The veteran needs help with daily activities.
- The veteran lives in Oakland, Macomb or Wayne county.
- VA authorization is in place or being arranged.
If one of these is uncertain, call us anyway. We would rather talk it through than have a veteran wait.
What happens after you refer
We confirm receipt
You will hear from us that we have the referral.
We accept or decline
We check caregiver availability in the veteran's area and give you a clear yes or no. If we decline, we tell you why and suggest an alternative when we know one. No referral sits unanswered.
We contact the family
We call the veteran or family, learn the daily routine and schedule the first visit within the authorized hours.
We report back to you
We confirm the start date and the assigned caregiver. After that, we tell you about missed or shortened visits and about changes our caregivers notice.
When an authorization nears its end date, or the veteran's needs change, we let you know early so you can reassess or renew without a gap in care. Timesheets and visit records are complete, accurate and on time, so your records line up with ours.
Caregiver standards
Every caregiver who enters a veteran's home meets our standard before the first visit, and keeps meeting it after.
- Background checks, including screening against the HHS Office of Inspector General exclusion list and SAM.gov exclusions.
- Training before the first unsupervised visit, covering personal care, safe transfers, dementia-aware care, infection control and how to report a change in condition.
- Supervision by a care coordinator, with regular check-ins with the veteran and family.
- A competency check on hands-on skills before a caregiver works alone.
Our full policies are on our compliance page. VETTED is a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business, certified through SBA VetCert (CAGE 9VKP5, UEI FSR9VDSTBJ63).
We publish our acceptance rate and median days to first visit every quarter. Ask for the current numbers.
Send a referral
This form asks for the minimum we need to start. We will call you for the rest. Helpful to have ready: authorized hours per week, preferred days or times, the veteran's city, a family contact, and safety notes about the home, such as pets, stairs or oxygen in use.
Get to know us
Before you refer, you may want to meet the people you would be sending veterans to. We are glad to come to your team for a short in-service, answer coverage questions, or send plain-language materials you can hand to families.
VETTED is owned by a service-disabled veteran and based in Troy. Our co-owner has run healthcare operations for more than 15 years.
Weekly capacity updates
Know where we can staff before you refer. Once a week, we email a short update on caregiver availability by county. You can also request our qualification dossier here.
We only use your email for capacity updates and the materials you request. Unsubscribe any time.
Referral does not guarantee authorization; VA determines services.
Independent and veteran-owned. VETTED is not part of, and does not speak for, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. VA alone decides eligibility and authorized hours. Information on this site is general and is not a benefit determination.
