Caregiver standards
These are the standards every VETTED caregiver must meet before working with a veteran, and the standards we hold ourselves to as an employer. A VA social worker or family member can ask us to show how any of them is met.
- Background checks. Every caregiver completes a criminal background check before hire.
- Exclusion screening. We screen every caregiver against the HHS Office of Inspector General List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE) and the SAM.gov exclusion list before hire, and again periodically while they work for us.
- Training first. Caregivers complete our training before their first unsupervised visit. Training covers personal care, safe transfers, infection control, dementia-aware care, privacy, and how to report a change in a veteran's condition.
- Competency check-offs. A supervisor observes and signs off on hands-on skills, such as bathing and transfers, before a caregiver performs them alone.
- Supervision and oversight. Caregivers work under a defined supervision structure with clinical oversight. Details of that structure are available on request.
- Employees, not contractors. Our standard is that caregivers are employees of VETTED, not independent contractors. We train, schedule, supervise and stand behind them.
Scope of care
VETTED provides non-medical in-home care. Our caregivers help with daily living: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility and transfers, meals, light housekeeping, laundry, errands, companionship and respite for family caregivers.
Our caregivers are not nurses and do not provide medical care.
- We give medication reminders. We do not give, set up or manage medications.
- We do not give injections.
- We do not provide wound care.
- We do not perform clinical assessments.

Privacy and confidentiality
We treat a veteran's health and personal information as private. Caregivers and staff learn our confidentiality rules in training and follow them on every visit. We share information only with the people who need it to provide care, such as the veteran's VA care team, or when the veteran or their legal representative tells us to.

Marketing standards
Veterans are often targeted by companies that blur the line between themselves and the government. We hold ourselves to clear rules.
- VETTED is a private company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
- We do not use the VA seal, or military branch or Department of Defense insignia, in our marketing.
- We describe the care we provide as VA-authorized home care because VA authorizes the hours and sends the referral. We do not describe ourselves as a VA agency or program.
Our Aid and Attendance policy
Aid and Attendance is a VA pension benefit that can help some veterans and surviving spouses pay for care. We are glad to explain what it is. We never prepare, file or charge for any VA benefit claim. For help with a claim, we refer families to an accredited Veterans Service Officer, whose help is free. Your county veterans office is a good place to start.
Federal contracting standards
VETTED has not yet been awarded a federal contract. When we describe experience, we label it for what it is: key personnel experience, or the operations of affiliated companies that are separate from VETTED. We never present that experience as VETTED contracts.
On every contract we win, VETTED will lead the program, manage the team and self-perform its share of the work. We team with other service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses first, and we follow the limitations on subcontracting in 13 CFR 125.6.
Reviews policy
We never pay for reviews, offer anything in exchange for them, or filter which reviews get posted. We do not ask only happy clients to leave a review. If you have a concern about your care, we want to hear it directly. Reach us through our contact page.
