Evan Shelline chairs the first meeting of Lily Hospice’s Veteran Advisory Committee
The committee advises the Troy hospice on how it cares for veterans and their families at the end of life in Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties.
The first meeting
On October 7, 2026, the Veteran Advisory Committee at Lily Hospice met for the first time. Evan Shelline, the founder and president of VETTED, chairs the committee and led the meeting.
Lily Hospice is a Medicare-certified hospice based in Troy, Michigan, serving Oakland, Macomb and Wayne counties. The committee gives the hospice a standing source of advice from the veteran community.
Evan served about a decade in the U.S. Navy, including about six years with the SEAL Teams. He is Senior Vice Commander of VFW Post 6896 and the creator and host of The Veteran Muster.
What the committee does
As Lily Hospice describes it, the committee:
- Reviews how the hospice asks about military service at the first visit.
- Advises the hospice’s Veteran Rapid Response team.
- Builds ties with VFW and American Legion posts, county veterans service offices and the VA.
- Shapes how veterans are recognized, including pinning ceremonies.
- Reviews the resources families receive about veterans’ end-of-life benefits.
Why it matters
Military service can shape the end of life: service-connected illness, memories that come back near the end, and benefits a family may not know they have earned. A care team does better work when veterans help shape it.
